Don’t you think that backless tops and dresses are so sexy?  Did you know that they are banned from some schools?  They are considered too revealing.  Backless tops have always been popular since the 1920s when the flapper designs were a breath of fresh air after the Edwardian restrictions and the backless dress was considered very risqué.  Bare arms were no longer considered taboo.

Backless Top

A single piece of cloth around the back of the neck was the only thing to hold the top or dress up and because it was hidden under the hair, it appeared to leave the shoulders and back completely bare.  Some backless tops nowadays have almost no fabric at all in the cropped designs – see what I mean with the Luna top from Patrice Catanzaro which is a beautifully designed tiny backless top!  Held in place by 2 shoulder straps linked by a thin strap means it can’t slide off. Nice alternative to the halterneck style. The front is a small panel of slightly ruched laqué fabric which drapes beautifully giving a really sexy outline for your boobs.

Halterneck designs are well known and very popular for daywear as well as in the evening and the necklines vary from tight collar-like neck bands to V necks plunging to the navel (and beyond).  The variety in designs seems to know no bounds which is great for us girls and they are also surprisingly easy to make at home.  Just twist a long, rectangular silk or fabric scarf around your waist, cross over your boobs and tie it at the back of your neck.  Safe, secure and an instant backless top!  How cool is that!  I have lots of silky scarves which I use like this – they all have 3 uses now: as a scarf, as a belt threaded through the loops on skirts or jeans, and also as instant summer tops.
