We all know how the bra was developed, don’t we? Ok, so it started with the laced basque, way back in the mists of time. From there came the lengthened corset, and the shortened waspie. The problem with the shortened versions is that there was no support for the bust. A separate garment was designed to give the bust independent support, which over the years has undergone many and varied changes to suit size, shape, and fashion.

One of the biggest developments of the bra has been its move into a sensual, sexual accessory. From the cupless, the balcony, cut away cups, peephole and every other possible variation. Once you have visited every design you can think of, the only variation to vary is the fabric and believe me, every possible combination has been used from cotton to rubber and latex.

However, there is a new one! Libertinesque, the sales operation in the UK representing the French designer Patrice Catanzaro, are presenting his collections made of a fabric that Patrice calls Laqué. He wanted to change the perception of sexy and fetish clothing, and get away from the sometimes difficult to wear and maintain fabrics such as Latex and Leather.

After much thought and research he came up with Laqué, which is a mixture of Polyester and Elastanne. The fabric itself has the weight of a good jersey, and is stretchy. The inside feels like silk against the skin, but the outside looks like latex, and has a satiny sheen. Skirts and dresses hang beautifully, and the tighter fitting garments such as tops, trousers, lingerie and short dresses, are very figure hugging, hugely flattering and feel like a second skin.

Under exhaustive test situations, the material has been found to have unequalled lasting qualities. It does not react to constant sunshine, or water. The outer covering does not split, separate or crack. You hand wash, and drip dry it, and even if it has been scrunched up in your suitcase for a few days, just hang it up and the creases drop out in half an hour.  Perfect!!
