Asymmetric hems appear to be all the rage for the spring and summer 2010, according to Saks 5th Avenue (http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/saks-fifth-avenue-2010-campaign), particularly in mini dresses and skirts but the sheer tops are also coming in for the asymmetric treatment too. Sheer tops have been shown off by the glitterati, Victoria Beckham to name but one, who are keen to show off their bras (or lack of) when out in the public eye. From fine mesh of tulle to huge holes of a string vest, they look just that little bit more interesting if you have a hem or neck line that’s off-centre. A black net top over a black bra still retains that chic sophistication of sexy allure.
Asymmetric Sheer Top
Layered looks are very popular whatever your age and for those of us with rather more personal layers than we would like, we have the comfort of wearing a sheer top to provide perfect camouflage. Being able to hide a multitude of bodily dissatisfactions beneath a fine layer of sheer fabric is, in my opinion, a huge bonus! Finding a sheer top with sleeves is also a plus. Have a look at the Milla asymmetric sheer top on the Libertinesque site – this epitomises what I mean.
Of course, sheer fabrics these days range from ‘cheap and cheerful’ thin and flimsy net, which is quite scratchy and uncomfortable to wear, to the really smooth and fine tulles which are fabulous and comfy. Patrice Catanzaro found it so hard to find a net of good enough quality for his collections of sexy wear that he worked with a fabric designer in France to manufacture his own. The results are pretty spectacular.
We mustn’t forget about guys’ shirts and tops which, for the young and trendy and also for those with great abs, sheer tops are hugely in demand. Remember Ricky Whittle on last year’s Strictly Come Dancing and Mark Foster from the previous year? – they both looked tanned and sexy with sheer tops giving us more than a peep at their muscles.
