We all know what a backless dress is so I’m not going to give you a history lesson about it. Suffice to say that right now, the back is the ‘New Cleavage’. And if you’re not getting it out there, you are missing the boat. So repeat after me: ‘Modest in front, sexy in the back!’ That’s right, now go forth and shop!

Now if you’re not quite convinced that you can pull off the look, here are some tips that should change your mind. First of all, you’ll need to choose a style based on what looks best with your body shape. Form fitting or loosely flowing? A wide, deep opening, or a shallower, narrower opening?. Everyone’s body is different and the most important thing is that you feel confident. Also, you’ll want to think about the styling of the front of the dress. Remember, a backless dress is the most striking when there is a contrast between the modesty of the front and the revelation of the back.

Once you’ve started trying on different styles, remember you’re your posture is of extreme importance. Walk with your head held high and your back straight. This can change the whole look of a backless dress. And you can continue to elongate your body by adding a pair of high heels. Another important tip is to take care of your skin. Don’t overdo it with the tanning. All you need to do is to make sure you follow a simple regimen of cleansing and moisturizing.

And last but not least, don’t wear a traditional bra! Nothing ruins the sexy line of an exposed back like an unwanted bra strap running across the middle. If you’re too well-endowed to go completely braless, look for a backless bra with adhesive, a strapless bra with a low clasp (depending on the depth of the back plunge) or individual bra cups or lifts. And remember not to wear a tight bra before you wear your backless dress because you don’t want any leftover ‘bra marks’ to show either.

A woman’s back is one of the sexiest parts of her body, and it’s far too often overlooked. The backless dress is the perfect outfit to remedy this, and it’s a desirable piece that can suit many different body types. There many different styles so keep looking until you find the perfect one for you. Take a look at the Marlene Short Black Backless Dress, the Natacha Short Black Laced Backless Dress, and our best-selling Gaelle Short Black Backless Dress. See what I mean? Something seriously sexy for everyone!

Back Lacing

The traditional concept of back lacing refers to ladies underwear in the guise of stiff corsets, and bustiers. The tightly pulled cross lace effect would shape and narrow the torso of the lady, giving the desired effect. This was inevitably altered over the years to encompass front lacing and side lacing for easier access.

In the early 1900s with the more radical ladies’ fashion trends expanding to include body piercing and tattooing, it wasn’t long before the more artistic of the devotees of body piercing brought in the art of temporary corset piercing.

Temporary corset piercings are often performed for aesthetic reasons, often as part of a fetish event or photo shoot. They may also be performed as play piercings and part of BDSM activity. Often temporary corset piercings are worn laced with ribbon, rope or chain. Permanent corset piercings would consist of multiple surface piercings pierced with jewellery designed for the purpose, and bear all of the healing issues and risks associated with them.

The fashion accessory industry has included back lacing in all types of clothing, from bustiers and corsets, to blouses, skirts and trousers. Even to a way of tying your shoe laces called Loop back lacing. There are many combinations of lacing in the clothing industry, but the use of one long lace is still the most popular. This method is easier for the wearer, because they don’t have to deal with, or try to hide, bundles of lace ends. A single long lace puts less strain on the eyelets, and with one lace to battle with, the desired shape of the torso is easier to achieve.

The fashion designers like Patrice Catanzaro have been able to include different ways of lacing into their designs,  (Wendy) to make access and dressing much easier, but if you want to have a traditional back laced corset, you need to accept the fact that you need a partner or friend to help get you into it and nicely laced.
