The cutaway back dress has been traced back to the 1800’s. I am sure that in a period of warm weather, I think I am correct in saying that it was in France, during that period, an enterprising fashion designer thought that exposing a certain amount of the ladies back would make a risqué and saucy fashion statement, and provide additional relief from the heat of summer.
Since then, the cutaway back in dresses, both short and long, and blouses, have been featured in most fashion designers collections at some stage or another. Personally, I find a low cut back to be much more sexy and sensual than a low front. Especially if you are in a situation where you are dancing. The gentle finger tip touch on a ladies back while dancing is most sensual.
Of course the extent of cut in the cutaway, can be small or large. One of the most outstanding cutaway dresses I have seen in years, was designed by celebrated French designer Patrice Catanzaro. He incorporates a very clever open back dress he calls Natacha. It is made from his unique fabric called laque, and drapes beautifully around the neck, and in the skirts of the dress itself. The cutaway just above the lacing over your bottom exposes a wonderful expanse of delicious back. It even allows a tantalising hint of bottom which I find pretty gross in builders but extremely alluring and sexy in a woman!!!
As a fashion statement which can be utilised in all types of outfit, from dresses long and short, blouses, and even catsuits, the cutaway back will be a favourite of both the buying public, and fashion designers, never mind the ever appreciative male of the species.
